About The Blooming Bee

My name is Lashanda, or as many know me as my nickname “Shay”, and I am a full spectrum doula. Being the wife of a military man, I’ve been around the world and had many different experiences. I’ve worked in the medical field for over 20 years, and I love helping others. Birth work is a calling, and I found my calling many years ago as I attended a premature birth with a very close friend of mine. She experienced trauma at the hands of her providers, that resulted in the death of her twin babies. That experience pivoted me into this field. Having my own trauma with two of my children, I knew there had to be a better way. I’ve been a doula for about 8 years now and I love it!

Based on Christian Values

Being a doula, is a personal journey for me. It’s been many years since I’ve birthed a child, but the experiences live on in my mind. All my birth experiences were different, but looking back I could’ve made better choices if I was properly informed. Birth is a natural experience. God made the woman special to bring forth life. Without this special gift, procreation would not exist. He designed our bodies to endure childbirth and to overcome it. I am a spirit filled believer of Christ. I do not believe in a birthing person, I believe only in women birthing. The world has twisted our existence to diminish the authenticity of what it means to be a woman. Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies- Proverbs 31:10.

I seek guidance from the Holy Spirit with this calling. I seek his wisdom and I trust his voice when he tells me what to do. The bible says, More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold, sweeter also than honey and dripping of the honeycomb- Psalm 19:10. These are all the truths that God is to reveal to us through wisdom in his Word. It is imperative that any client, who decides to have me work with them, is comfortable with the Holy Spirit being in the room with us. I will move as the Lord’s spirit tells me to. That part of my service is non- negotiable.

The Lord is the giver of life and it is through him that we exist. The bible says, The Spirit of God has made me and the breath of the almighty gives me life- Job 33:4. I cannot do this without him. The enemy has tasked his forces to snuff out life, if possible even from the womb. I am here to put the Lord back into the delivery room as the midwives mentioned in the scripture, which feared the Lord and did not as the king instructed, Exodus 1:15-21.

The life of your baby is precious, a gift that the Lord has given you. Cherish it and make sure that no outside influence keeps you from having the experience that the Lord intended you to have. For I know the thoughts I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11.

Why the bee?

The bee symbolizes wisdom, strength and perseverance. Bees are loyal to their hive, and they serve others. In the bible Deborah or Devorah means “bee” in Hebrew. She was full of wisdom, creativity, resourcefulness and hard work. The “bee” has characteristics that are the essence of who I am as a person. Through Christ’s example, I strive to help others and nothing can remove me from following him. I am a fierce defender of my family and I am loyal to those I love. For these reasons, I use the bee as a symbol for my business.
